3 Days / 2 Nights
Day 1: Marrakech - Ait Ben Haddou - Dades Valley
Departure: Depart early (around 7:00-8:00 AM) from Marrakech. You'll be picked up from your accommodation if you're part of an organized tour, or you can depart in your own car if you prefer to explore independently.
Route: Take the road south, crossing the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n'Tichka Pass (2,260 m). The journey offers spectacular views, so plan some photo stops.
First stop: Arrive at the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou (about 3-4 hours from Marrakech), a fortified village declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Explore its adobe streets and, if you have time, have lunch here.
Continue: Continue to Ouarzazate (another 30-40 minutes), known as the "Gateway to the Desert." You can make a brief stop to see the Taourirt Kasbah or the Atlas Film Studios if you're interested.
Final destination of the day: Head to the Dades Valley (about 2-3 hours from Ouarzazate), passing through the Valley of Roses. You'll arrive at sunset.
Overnight: Accommodation in a riad or hotel in the Dades Valley (such as Boumalne Dades). Typical Moroccan dinner included if part of a package. Total distance: Approximately 350 km (about 7-8 hours with stops).
Day 2: Dades Valley - Todra Gorges - Merzouga (Erg Chebbi Desert)
Morning: After breakfast, depart for Todra Gorge (approximately 45 minutes), a stunning canyon with rock walls up to 200 meters high. Take a short walk along the river and enjoy the scenery.
Desert Route: Continue to Merzouga (about 3-4 hours), passing through Erfoud, famous for its fossils, and the Jorf Palm Grove. You can stop for lunch along the way.
Arrival in Merzouga: Upon arrival (late afternoon, around 3:00-4:00 PM), leave your vehicle and hop aboard a dromedary (or camel) for a 1-1.5-hour ride to the camp in the Erg Chebbi dunes. Enjoy the sunset over the golden dunes.
Night: Dinner at the Berber camp (usually a tagine or couscous), followed by drumming around a campfire. Sleep in a tent under the stars. Total distance: Approximately 250 km (about 5-6 hours with stops, plus camel ride).
Day 3: Merzouga - Marrakech
Morning: Wake up early to watch the sunrise from the dunes (a magical experience). After breakfast at the camp, return by camel or 4x4 (if you prefer) to the starting point in Merzouga.
Return: Begin your return trip to Marrakech (approximately 9-10 hours). You'll pass through Rissani (you can stop briefly if there's a market on Tuesdays, Thursdays, or Sundays), the Draa Valley, and Ouarzazate. Stop for lunch along the way.
Arrival: You'll be back in Marrakech in the evening (around 6:00-8:00 PM), depending on traffic and stops. Total distance: Approximately 560 km (9-10 hours with stops).
